BSA106 70-80 animation review
Belgium:
The animation during this time was famous for the smurfs a comic that was made into animated movie that became very popular and was later turned into a t.v series.
Italy:
Bruno Bozzetto created Allegro Non Troppo in 1976 the film uses a mixture of animation and live action the film its self was reminiscent of fantasy due to its sound track and some of the scene we saw portrayed.
UK:
Roger Mainwood Autobahn 1979 was an animated film that showed had clear themes for the 70's disco era the animation is a psychedelic transient look at color and try to portray emotion and euphoria through imagery. showing the inner working of the mind while on drugs was my personal impression.
Australia / Poland :
unique merge of film and animation using actual footage as a back drop to the animated characters was a unique way of portraying the Australian outback in a very natural way. allows viewers to see the beauty of the outback along with a animated story that binds the world to a story.
Croatia :
The hand drawn frame by frame animation is a spectacular sight to behold. yet the constant jumping through the story scene's makes the whole animation feel very disjointed in my opinion. but at the same time this disjointed story still works as a form of high art animation where interpretation of the images along with the sound track allows audiences to build there own view of the story.
Personal side note : this animation was amazing to looks at visually as the hand drawn style was very well done but it was truly boring to watch as it meandered on.
Overall the animation form the 70-80 was a grand mixture of many forms of animation still present today. the films still show high art aspects as they can be interpenetrated by the view to discover ones own meaning of what they are watching while the start of low art animation like the smurf focuses on mass production of an easy art style and simple story that can be made for a more general public.
