Soviet Montage

Summarise the different approaches to montage between the following film makers:
-Sergei Eisentein
-Dziga Vertov
-Vsevolod Pudovkin

Sergei Eisenstein:

His approach to montage cutting to a bunch of different scenes that creates a sense of feeling related to the film. like in the film Observations of Odessa Steps, Eisenstein uses quick cuts to different scene to relay the panic of the scene. he also used a bunch of still photos of different angles of a statue to make it seem as the statue is moving.

Dziga Vertov:
He used montage to create symbolism between scene and using the editing of film to tell a story instead of the actors and story. he creates a sense of realism in his films by using this method of frenetic montage style.

Vservolod Pudovkin:
Approach to montage is closer to that of modern cinema where it is a collection of frames that share a linkage to develop a story or show a passing of time.
